Interconnection
School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents 鈥淚nterconnection,鈥 a juried exhibition of works by SVA students. Organized by SVA Galleries, 鈥淚nterconnection,鈥 is on view Thursday, April 28 through Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, New York City.
鈥淚nterconnection鈥 features 12 artists exploring forms of personal communication. Shown through drawing, painting, photography and sculpture, the fleeting moments of exchange found within the work simultaneously illustrate the artists鈥 ties to the surrounding world. From micro (relationships with individuals) to macro (those of community and society), these forms of connection vary in scale, but all contribute to a complex ecosystem. Depicted stories and experiences acknowledge larger social and cultural contexts by representing points of harmony, friction and resonance with influences and values. This exhibition offers conceptual, pictorial and expressive portrayals of the individual connections that, in aggregate, form a greater whole. Participating artists include Anastasia Caulfield (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Christian Chang (BFA Illustration), Kate Gu (MFA Fine Arts), Julia Lopac (BFA Illustration), Ramie Nasser-Ahmed (BFA Photography and Video), Joseph O'Malley (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Alison Pasquini (MFA Art Practice), Grace Qian (BFA Fine Arts), Rebecca Steighner (BFA Photography and Video), Laura Valentina (MFA Art Practice), Leiya Wang (BFA Photography and Video) and Yichi Zhang (BFA Fine Arts).
Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.
