Joey Tranchina: Los Angeles in the Sixties
Galerie XII has the pleasure to announce the first exhibition of Joey Tranchina's photographs of Los Angeles, a city he discovered as a young man:
"Johnny Weismuller Jr., son of a famous athlete and actor, was just hangin鈥 out with friends, a familiarity foreign to a kid in cut-off jeans; I didn鈥檛 feel like I鈥檇 fallen off the back of a turnip truck but I didn鈥檛 exactly fit in either. Sensing my discomfort, John looked at me and laughed: 鈥淛oey, Joey鈥 this is Los Angeles, you can be anyone you want to be in LA. Go. Go! Get down there on the hard sand and walk on your hands鈥o as far as you can.鈥 With the rush of dizzying exhilaration that produced, I felt like I almost belonged in LA 鈥 a feeling I haven鈥檛 forgotten in 50 years.鈥 Joey Tranchina
