On the basis of contemporary artworks from the Essl Collection, the exhibition >Sehnsucht Ich< (Longing for Myself) deals with the diverse artistic strategies of grasping or calling into question human existence and the self. The images of people range from children and youth scenes through self-portraits and pictures of people in the field of tension of society, to reflections on the body and psyche, transience and solution of the figure. What can be seen are paintings by Austrians and international artists, complemented by selected sculptural works. An exhibition highlight are the large-format Gobelin tapestries by the American photorealist
Chuck Close, which will be shown in public for the first time.
