Los Intocables / The Untouchables
The arrival of Marta Traba to Colombia during the 1950s brought with it the consolidation of modern art in Colombia and its main representatives. The commentaries Traba did of Colombia鈥檚 modern art became the pillars and references to value the artistic production throughout the country. Traba had a very strong relationship and comradery with some of the artists, mainly with 鈥淭he Untouchables鈥 group. The writer and journalist Fausto Panesso gave them this name, as he stated that during the decade of the 1970s, the artists that Traba had identified as the representatives of modern art in Colombia became a sort of cult.
The group of The Untouchables included artists from different regions of the country, amongst them, Fernando Botero (惭别诲别濒濒铆苍), Alejandro Obreg贸n (Barranquilla), Enrique Grau (Cartagena), Edgar Negret (Popay谩n) and Eduardo Ram铆rez Villamizar (Santander).This allowed Traba to generate in Colombians interest in their art and its most established artists. This also facilitated discussions and appreciation of art, which led to acquiring works of art. At the same time instigated cultural expressions and intelligentsia from different parts of the region to also participate.
