Lothar Osterburg: At Work

Apr 12, 2025 - May 11, 2025

Pamela Salisbury Gallery is pleased to present At Work, Lothar Osterburg鈥檚 fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, opening on Saturday, April 12, with an artist鈥檚 reception from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Lothar Osterburg is a German-born, New York-based artist and master printer in intaglio, who works in sculpture, photography, printmaking, and video. He is best known for copper-plate photogravures featuring rough, small-scale models fashioned out of readily available or found materials. These images, which depict evocative settings such as imaginary cities, rustic structures and vessels of the air and sea, are photographed to appear life-size to a disorienting, mysterious or whimsical effect.

In his latest exhibition with Pamela Salisbury Gallery, titled At Work, Osterburg focuses on the workplace as a central theme. A selection of his tonally rich photogravures are complemented by pieces of sculpture like 鈥淩eception Desk鈥: a vintage telephone hollowed out to house a dingy miniature office space, paradoxically evoking solitude via a playful form. Notably, the workscapes are devoid of people, allowing the viewer to inhabit each space as if it belongs in their memory.
