Arguably the inspiration for more great art than any other human emotion, love comes in all shapes, sizes, forms and features. Love presents a challenge to the visual artist though. How do you depict love? How do you convey its complexity and intensity? Drawing together works of art from the sixteenth century to the present day, this exhibition will explore how artists such as
Raphael, Cranach, Vermeer, Rossetti, Holman Hunt,
Chagall,
Tracey Emin, The Singh Twins,
Grayson Perry,
Marc Quinn and
David Hockney and many more have responded to love in all its complexities, across the centuries and in a range of different styles.
