In 1941鈥42, while in exile in Amsterdam, Max Beckmann produced a series of lithographs entitled Apocalypse on the Revelation of Saint John the Divine. In 2008 the Friends of the Staatsgalerie (Freunde der Staatsgalerie Stuttgart 鈥 Stuttgarter Galerieverein) succeeded in acquiring an exceptional edition of this series, which will be presented in the new galleries on the ground floor of the Alte Staatsgalerie from 13 December. Further works by Beckmann from the holdings of the Staatsgalerie鈥檚 Department of Prints, Drawings and Photographs will also be on display, among them of his self-portraits as well as the Resurrection from the Faces series of 1918, which bears a relation to the painting of the same name in the museum鈥檚 collection. The six-part lithograph series on the New Testament of 1911 will also be on view.
