Modern Masters: From Rembrandt to Picasso 鈥- Representation of the Figure in Western Art

Jan 06, 2014 - Jan 16, 2014
Following the second of Sotheby's Modern Masters selling exhibition, which was devoted to the evolution of  modern landscape paintings, this third installment focuses on depictions of the figure.  With works ranging from one of the greatest 17th Century portraits by Rembrandt remaining in private hands to a Rembrandt-inspired painting of a Musketeer from the 1960s by Pablo Picasso, this exhibition presents some excellent examples of this subject by some of the critical artists in the history of western art.
