Nice to See You! 160 Works from the Collection

Feb 13, 2015 - Aug 23, 2015

Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein will be fifteen years old in 2015. With an extensive themed exhibition, the museum therefore provides an in-depth insight into its own collection, its history, and new additions.

Founded on the collection holdings of the Liechtenstein State Art Collection, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein has over the past years worked incessantly on building a collection of 20th and 21st century art. Its profile is defined by three-dimensional artworks, i.e. sculptures, installations and objects. The paintings held in the collection also generally have a strong link to space. What is more, two major themes define the collection of art since 1900: on the one hand rational trends and anthropological methods on the other.

The collection is the treasure from which the museum draws in developing its activities in art research and education. Nice to See You! invites visitors to discover this treasure and to trace its history. The exhibition is the first opportunity to showcase several meanwhile quite substantial series of such artists as Absalon, Marcel Duchamp, François Morellet, Matt Mullican or Rosemarie Trockel. On show are also the large installation Raum 3 by Joseph Beuys, works by Arte Povera artists, along with works from the former Rolf Ricke collection – milestones in the development of the collection. In combination with other outstanding works of such international artists as Hans Arp, Otto Freundlich, Gloria Friedmann, Leiko Ikemura, Willem de Kooning, Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Rita McBride or Meret Oppenheim, the show pans out a widely diversified, vibrant network of artistic positions from the past century to the present.
