Nils Erik Gjerdevik
In this monumental exhibition, one of Denmark麓s leading artists Nils Erik Gjerdevik (b 1962) unfolds his talents in both drawings, sculptures and paintings. Since the 1980s, Gjerdevik has held a special position in the Danish art world due to his characteristic style and interest in the poetic potential and form language of paintings and art in general. The size of each exhibited work has been determined by the proportions of the halls and they represent an artistic universe which draws from both the abstract/formal, the surreal and the architectural language of shape. Cartoon-like suggestions meet elements from science fiction; together they create a minimalist but also colourful and virtuosic expression. The artist is clearly inspired by the traditions of pattern painting which he rearranges and expands with his own unique signature.
