Non-Traditional Landscapes

May 21, 2011 - Jul 20, 2011
Landscape artists are, by definition, concerned with the representation of the tangible world, except when they subvert the physicality of their subject in favor of portraying the spirituality of an otherwise specific view.

So it is with the six artists whose works are featured in Non-Traditional Landscapes (working title).  The abstractions of David Ivan Clark emphasize color over detail to evoke an emotional response from the viewer who upon seeing the work can say, 鈥淚 have felt this place,鈥 even if they cannot identify an actual location.  Brenda Jamrus bends our perceptions of order and recognition with her mirrored photographs, turning the familiar into echoes and memories.  Susan Longini鈥檚 delicate glass installations suggest season and sensation, inviting the viewer to draw upon their own recollections to complete the art.
