ONLINE: Andrew Weir: The Ephemerality of Meaning

Dec 03, 2021 - Dec 31, 2021
Time, memory, culture, language:  whatever conveys or constitutes meaning also defines it's ephemerality. This is something Scottish artist Andrew Weir knows only too well. Having lived in The Netherlands, Japan, Hungary, and Germany, Weir has used his years of experiencing language barriers to reflect on how we communicate. A flurry of abstraction juxtaposed with recognisable imagery mimic the familiar and foreign - the naivety, excitement and visual overload of being immersed in new environments. Weir is fascinated by how our communicative symbols shift, becoming entirely irrelevant or entirely renewed. And, in as much as the artist's paintings (or art in general) can be reinterpreted by the individual, how these communicative symbols have immeasurable and ephemeral meanings.
