ONLINE: Claire Seidl: Dialog Between Black and White Photography and Painting

There are three aspects to Claire Seidl鈥檚 studio practice. Oil paintings have been the most dominant and possibly best-known work. However, her black and white photographs and renderings on paper and mylar are distinct in terms of materials yet, very much related to the paintings in several ways, both compositionally and formally. During my time with Seidl in her studio, discussing her painting process and curating her first solo painting exhibition with David Richard Gallery (鈥淰iolets Are Blue鈥 鈥 2022), she noted some of the relationships between the distinct mediums. We discussed how she came to be interested in photography. Her explanation was noted in the exhibition essay, in a few key paragraphs that are reproduced below.
