Phoebe Rotter: Closer Than They Appear
This installation explores the political and spiritual implications of bodily transformation through large-scale drawings by Phoebe Rotter, which will cover the walls of the Founders Gallery. The exhibition rests on the premise that the only consistent feature of the human body is that it constantly changes. In order to investigate these changes and ways in which bodies are commanded to look, fit, and shift, Rotter looks to her own body to investigate the space between the false binary of monstrousness and beauty. These drawings, created in black ink on a white background, are the artist’s means of allowing her rage, broken heart, and devouring grief to be seen plainly.
