Benham Gallery welcomes the New Year with Placement of Place, an exhibition by fine art photographers
Esther Sirotnik, R.
Mac Holbert,
Dan Steinhardt, and
Robert Wade. The exceptional works of this exhibition draw us in with a unique view of geographically significant places. Through the use of line, angle, light and color, the artists bring us a glimpse of the familiar through strong graphic statements about the locations they explore with their cameras. Rather than offering the quintessential buildings and imagery tied to certain areas, these photographs invite us into a new way of seeing things through an evocation of feelings and a sense of place. Seattle native, Esther Sirotnik, specializes in stunning images capturing the beauty of the ordinary found in extraordinary places. With an intuitive eye, Sirotnik brings us images from Paris, France that elicit a sense of place without the overt symbolism associated with the famous city. After four years spent building her collection of street photography in Paris, Sirotnik rewards us with a visual journey into the geometry of life in a dynamic urban setting.
Sirotnik has exhibited her works in Seattle, Los Angeles, Italy and France, and recently published an image from her Paris collection on the cover of the spring 2008 issue of the internationally distributed Style and Substance Seasonal Magazine. A student of the Fine Art Photography Program at the Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Sirotnik also holds a Juris Doctorate from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, and a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Political Science from the University of Washington. From 1997-2002, she practiced as an Intellectual Property Attorney in the San Francisco Bay Area, before returning to Seattle in 2003. Co-founder of Nash Editions, R.
