Disappointed, desperate, devastated, these are the words you can think of to describe the year that just passed. There has never been a moment in our lives when we are so anxious for the arrival of a new year. One cannot help but remember what Dickens wrote, 鈥渋t was the best of times, it was the worst of times鈥�. Fortunately, there is art, which has accompanied and comforted us in the darkest of times.
AroundSpace is proud to present a group show at the beginning of 2021, Pulse. This is an 鈥渙pen鈥� exhibition, which means we are going to constantly changing the artworks at the show. Thanks to the pandemic, we have spent much more time in solitude than ever before, learning to get along with our family and ourselves at home. We have watched each other and been watched at a close distance at the same time. All trivial emotions and details in life have been exemplified and extended in this confined mood.
Every art professional experienced an unexpected difficult time in 2020, filled by tranquility and passion. Social distance made previous art gatherings impossible for too long. In the next two months, AroundSpace will not only open its exhibition space to visitors, but also will invite them to join an open discussion on the art displayed, and even welcome them to participate in the installation process from time to time.
The pulse, however tiny or undetectable, represents the tactile arterial palpation of the heartbeat, the engine of life. It also reveals the rhythm of life. Likewise, small-scale artworks reveal the beat of social life, as well as the evolution of art history. After the winter of despair, there comes the spring of hope. As long as there is life, the pulse will not stop. These artists did not praise the significance and sacrifice of life explicitly in their art, yet they expressed their passion for art and humanity through their persistent quest to practice art. May the pulse of their art beat livelier in a new year.
