Decision-making is messy business with ten to thirteen people. But for six and a half years, Regina Rex has managed to continue to operate as a multi-headed, unwieldy artist-run gallery that offers exhibitions and a network of support to under-recognized artists. Through slow, spiraling conversations that wind themselves in and out of apartments, emails, studios and bars, we have figured out how to make this project work and continue. While our model has a strong lineage historically, we also hope to reconsider the notion of 鈥渞epresentation鈥� as it pertains to artist and gallery. While it is important to us that we are artists "representing" artists, it is maybe more important that we are a group of ten artists "representing" other artists. This exhibition contains one work by all current or past participating members of Regina Rex along with one work by each of the four artists we "represent." Each work by a participating member is 16 x 20 inches and the other four works vary in size. This simple parameter outlines our operating structure within the framework of an exhibition, and speaks to the complicated relationship between individual artist, gallery and artwork represented.

Regina Rex was founded on the border between Brooklyn and Queens in 2010 and is now located at 221 Madison Street in New York City. This show is part of an exchange with The Pit that began in September with the exhibition Replanetizer at Regina Rex organized by The Pit.
