Valentine Willie Fine Art is pleased to announce the launch of REFRESH, our new annual exhibition that highlights new works by emerging contemporary artists from Indonesia. Curated by Enin Supriyanto, the show promises to survey of new developments in Indonesian contemporary art, presenting works that do not necessarily conform to the dominant styles or trends favoured by the current art market. As such, REFRESH is more a way of thinking about art than a subject of an exhibition. It acknowledges the vitality and diversity present in the contemporary art practices of Indonesia and calls for its renewal and strengthening through a greater acceptance amongst art collectors of the diverse range of artistic practices out there. In light of the recent growth in the Indonesian art market, REFRESH appeals to broaden, reviving and enriching the market, by way of introducing new works and artists, and hence new ways of thinking about art. It is today's challenge to expand the scope of contemporary art, creating a new space that reflects and respond to the strength and challenge within the plurality of the country's contemporary art scene.
