Sebastian Gr盲fe

May 21, 2011 - Jul 10, 2011
The weather is not only one of the most popular topics of conversation, it is also one of man鈥檚 most stubborn adversaries. It impinges on all realms of life and yet eschews all control. The only possibility of largely avoiding its influence is to categorically exclude it. Sebastian Gr盲fe however opts for a contrary course in his exhibition Die weiteren Aussichten: he brings the weather right into the room. There is no escaping it. Using the principle of the weather station or weather column, he transfers its function to architectural components of the exhibition space and the objects in it. He conceives a measuring and display system for air pressure, temperature and weather forecast which has a key of its very own and fits in both formally and conceptually with Gr盲fe鈥檚 other work. At the same time he exposes the exhibition space to phenomena that apparently stand for total freedom or boundlessness and make the walls of the Ku虉nstlerhaus Bremen permeable.

Sebastian Gr盲fe (*1976 in Grimma) received the 30th Bremen Fine Arts Prize in 2007. In the years that followed scholarships brought him to Stuhr-Heiligenrode or Edenkoben. He had solo exhibitions among others at the Kunstverein Cuxhaven, Galerie Lena Bru虉ning, Zern Berlin, Kunstverein St. Pauli and the Simultanhalle K枚ln.
An extensive catalogue will be published to mark the exhibition Die weiteren Aussichten at the K眉nstlerhaus Bremen
