Sergey Filatov: I Hear You

Sep 13, 2022 - Oct 23, 2022

The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Triumph gallery are proud to present an exhibition by Sergey Filatov, I hear you. In his new project, the artist suggests immersing oneself in the nuances of sound, stopping and focusing on details that are inaccessible in the context of the usual rhythms and flows.

Sergey Filatov works at the intersection of several genres. He creates sound sculptures, kinetic installations, as well as designer musical instruments. Technological and rigorous his works still call upon sensibility and empathy of the audience. The artist explores the nature and acoustic features of sounds and thinks about how they are perceived. This is a broad subject, and in each exhibition Sergey Filatov finds new solutions. He creates architecture that reflects different aspects of sound and listening, depending on the specifics of the place and the surroundings.

The exhibition includes new and iconic works of the artist, and their sound opens up according to the acoustics and the peculiarities of the space. Sound is considered as a special substance that is physically created and transmitted through resonating objects. Each exhibition hall has its own sound installation. Visitors can interact with the installations through meditation, careful listening, attention to the plasticity of forms, and observation of movement.

I Hear You is a space of dialogue: the visitor interacts with sound, which, in turn, is connected to their presence. The works engage several perceptual levels at once, transforming the experience of the space, as well as creating its own environment and temporality. As they move through the exhibition, the visitors encounter a variety of sonic and visual nuances. Gradually they come together in a sensitized and multifaceted world.
