Sharing the National Collection: Monet, Olley and Morandi
Under the National Cultural Policy Revive, the National Gallery’s Sharing the National Collection initiative will share some of their collection with regional and suburban galleries, and cultural institutions across the country on long-term loans.
Claude Monet’s painting, Meules, milieu du jour [Haystacks, midday], 1890 is one of five works from the National Gallery of Australia’s collection that has been shared with the Gallery and is currently on display until 26 October 2025.
Between 1890 and 1891, Monet painted his Haystacks series exploring the nuances of light, shade, tone and colour across the seasons and at different times of the day. Meules, milieu du jour [Haystacks, midday] 1890 is a glorious work from this series, filled with dazzling light and luminous colour.
