Space for Engagement: The Opioid Project
The Opioid Project: Changing Perceptions Through Art and Storytelling highlights mixed media works by students currently participating in UNCG’s Spartan Recovery Program. In partnership with Health Story Collaborative, an award-winning story-telling and art non-profit focused on de-stigmatizing addiction, the museum hosted a four-hour art-making and storytelling event that provided students additional avenues to explore their experiences with addiction and mental health challenges.
The exhibition situates art and the museum as a location for education, dialogue, and action for supporting physical and mental health. With a focus on opioid addiction, the exhibition will serve as a launching pad to talk about our broader community members’ experiences of the opioid/addiction crisis and its impact on their lives.
