Spanish Masterpieces from The Frick Collection
Spanish painting from The Frick Collection, one of the world鈥檚 finest art collections, will be on display at the Museo Nacional del Prado this spring. A group of nine celebrated works by Vel谩zquez, El Greco, Murillo and Goya will be making this exceptional trip to Spain thanks to the support of the Comunidad de Madrid.
Most of these works were acquired by Henry Clay Frick, the industrialist, philanthropist and founder of a museum with a collection that is now considered one of New York鈥檚 greatest cultural treasures.
The Frick mansion where the works are normally displayed is currently undergoing architectural improvements and the museum is exhibiting its collection at Frick Madison. This context has allowed for a special agreement for the temporary loan of works to the Museo Nacional del Prado. With the exception of two of the paintings, none have been seen in Spain since they originally left the country.
