As days grow longer and warmer, The Garden at Newfields comes to life with Spring Blooms presented by Wild Birds Unlimited. After a long winter, spring is a special time here at Newfields and around the world. The Garden bursts to life with carpets to canopies of fantastic floral abundance. This colorful season of growth brings families together to celebrate traditions鈥攂irthdays, holidays, festivals, or simply a walk to enjoy a favorite spring spot.
At Newfields, spring makes its grand entrance with Art in Bloom, a four-day-long celebration of art and nature inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Now in its fifth year, the beloved floral extravaganza has become a harbinger of the season to many in Indianapolis.
No matter the weather, guests will find lush scenes of tropical plants and orchids throughout the buildings at Newfields, with particularly delightful displays in the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse.
As the season progresses, more than 60,000 daffodils (Narcissus spp.), hyacinths, tulips, and more will slowly emerge to blanket the beds throughout The Garden.
The latest days of spring in The Garden will bring spectacular scenes of early flowering trees and shrubs, including favorites serviceberry (Amelanchier sp., also known as shadbush or Junebush), eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis) and flowering dogwood (Cornus florida).
Revel in spring early and often as the season brings something new each day and night. Enjoy a beverage at Garden Terrace where you can pick up a spring recipe from our Culinary Arts team. While you wander, you鈥檒l be able to enjoy the re-envisioned Glick Fountain which is poised to become a destination within Oldfields, our National Historic Landmark estate. The exciting recent renovations preserve the original views of the Olmstead Brothers landscape design while increasing accessibility, welcoming guests to experience the dynamic fountain upgrades up-close.
