Changing seasons offer new perceptions鈥攂oth sensory and psychological鈥攐f the world around us. These works from MMA鈥檚 collection center around Southern artists鈥� views of places they encounter and choose to portray in their work. Clarence Millet, William Hollingsworth, and Mildred Wolfe spent time capturing their environments en plein air (outdoors). Byron Buford and Marion Souchon turned their attention to public interiors. Romare Bearden, Andrew Bucci, and Lynn Green Root pulled inspiration from their surroundings to create places abstract or imagined. Mary Katharine Loyacono McCravey and Helene Canizaro invite us to stop and engage with buildings and natural elements that make up the Mississippi landscape.
