Taking Shapes: New Projects X New Curators
The Art Center presents a new curatorial project by participants enrolled in the Curatorial Practices course, a component of the Visual Arts Certificate Program offered by the University of Chicago Graham School in partnership with the Hyde Park Art Center. The show is conceived of, produced, and installed by the students working in teams. The exhibition features artwork in a variety of media by artists that the students researched and selected to feature in the exhibition.
Taking Shapes features work that draws inspiration from nature and explores Henry Adams notion, 鈥淐haos was the law of nature; order was the dream of man.鈥� Through research, experimentation, repetition, language and documentation, forms of the natural world are expanded, while the artists intuitively mirror the essence of their subject matter. Whether the work manifests physically in obsessive collection, attention to detail, or movement within a given space, Taking Shapes relinquishes control in order to experience what it鈥檚 like when nature takes the lead.
