The Extended Moment: Fifty Years Of Collecting Photographs

Feb 08, 2020 - Oct 18, 2020

The National Gallery of Canada has one of the most comprehensive, international, and respected collections of photographs in North America. Established in 1967 and covering the history of the medium up to today "The Extended Moment" is a selection of over 80 photographs that will be exhibited at the Audain Museum of Art. Because of the breadth and depth of the collection, as well as an equal weighting of historic and contemporary works there are resonances between images made more than one hundred years apart. These photographs move and enlighten the visitor as they chart a history of image making, technological change, and social transformation. It is this aspect of the collection that forms the core of this exhibition.
