The Master of Paper. Drawing Books from the Seventeenth to the Nineteenth Centuries
This exhibition will place particular emphasis on drawing manuals of the 17th to 19th centuries, locating them in their international context. Although few in number they are particularly important, not just because they rapidly reflected this new tradition in art but also because they are notably from the outset for their distinctive Spanish and on occasions innovative character, as well as for the presence of unique elements that denote their national origin.
Notable among Spanish artists in this field are Pedro de Villafranca y Malag贸n and prior to him, Jos茅 de Ribera. Also notable are the manuals by Jos茅 Garc铆a Hidalgo, Friar Mat铆as de Irala and Jos茅 L贸pez Engu铆danos.
