Threads and Tensions

Jan 16, 2021 - Feb 28, 2021
In a world that seems to be hurtling towards an as yet undefined endgame, artists turn to the textures, traditions and tensions embodied in material vernaculars. Yeo Workshop鈥檚 exhibition, Threads and Tensions, presents the work of five artists who revisit one of the oldest forms of bodily technology known to civilization: textiles. Here is the distinction between cloth and canvas deliberately confused; here is fabric ornamented, dyed, collaged and embroidered; here are objects produced by familiar modes of making, but visualizing a means of coming to terms with the surreal, insecure world that we find ourselves inhabiting today.

The work of Fyerool Darma, Cian Dayrit, Marcin Dudek, Maryanto, and Cole Sternberg suggest the possibilities of textiles beyond mere ornamentation or utility, deploying cloth and craft as tools of resistance, reflection and rumination.
