Through-Line: Drawing and Weaving
Steve Turner is pleased to present Through-Line: Drawing and Weaving by 19 Artists, a three-room exhibition that will juxtapose the works of diverse international artists.
In combining drawing, weaving and other textiles techniques, Through-Line aims to highlight the resurgence of handmade works that artists create with yarn, pencil, crayon or oil stick. The works themselves are diverse, with abstraction represented by the monochromatic grey drawing of Joaqu铆n Boz and the colorful geometry in Altoon Sultan鈥檚 hooked textiles. The figure is present in varying styles as well鈥� in Laylah Ali鈥檚 and Claire Milbrath鈥檚 elegant line drawings, in Camilo Restrepo鈥檚 large cartoon-filled drawing, in silhouette in Diedrick Brackens鈥� weaving, and in shaded form in Robyn O鈥橬eil鈥檚 work. Text, existing somewhere between abstraction and figuration, is central in the weaving and drawings by Kyle Goldbach, Mitsuko Brooks鈥� assemblage and the collage by Simon Evans鈩�. What links these varied works, their through-line, is the focus on the handmade, the intimate and the personal.
