Tope "Tres" Java
Originally from Cebu in the Philippines, collage artist Tope 鈥淭res鈥 Java experienced a childhood marked by poverty and domestic violence. This challenging background pushed him to leave home at a young age and carve out a path through street painting competitions. His remarkable talent eventually led him to the prestigious Fine Arts program at the University of the Philippines, where a scholarship allowed him to complete his education.
Now leading Studio Tres, Java creates monumental collages that engage in a dynamic dialogue between chaos and harmony. The plastic debris and paper, references to his childhood neighbourhood, form the raw material of his visual language. Each reused fragment becomes a symbol of resilience and transformation. In addition to his artistic work, Tope 鈥淭res鈥 Java actively participates in social art projects, particularly those supporting neurodivergent individuals, while also promoting contemporary Philippine art.
