Tope "Tres" Java
Originally from Cebu in the Philippines, collage artist Tope 鈥淭res鈥� Java experienced a childhood marked by poverty and domestic violence. This challenging background pushed him to leave home at a young age and carve out a path through street painting competitions. His remarkable talent eventually led him to the prestigious Fine Arts program at the University of the Philippines, where a scholarship allowed him to complete his education.
Now leading Studio Tres, Java creates monumental collages that engage in a dynamic dialogue between chaos and harmony. The plastic debris and paper, references to his childhood neighbourhood, form the raw material of his visual language. Each reused fragment becomes a symbol of resilience and transformation. In addition to his artistic work, Tope 鈥淭res鈥� Java actively participates in social art projects, particularly those supporting neurodivergent individuals, while also promoting contemporary Philippine art.
