The videos presented in Unresolved Circumstances explore past and present recurring issues in Latin America that continuously shape a contradictory reality. This involves a simultaneous ongoing attempt to build some sense of the future. Presented in three thematic axes—History, Location, and Politics—the works deal with several global and local socio-political issues. The exhibition begins by presenting an open dialogue with videos that relate to Latin American history addressing themes such as colonialism and its effects, as well as the contradictions of a dysfunctional modernity and its consequences. The second theme, Location, is primarily based on concerns associated to the urban society and it highlights topics particularly linked to the city. The last section of the exhibition focuses on current political concerns including gender issues, corruption and the continuing rise of violence, the war on drugs, forced disappearance, and consumerism, among others. Unresolved Circumstances illustrates the interconnections between the past and the present through recurring themes, and the proposals and shifts towards the future.
