Veronika Pausova: Elope by Mere Thread

Nov 18, 2016 - Jan 14, 2017

笔谩谤补尘辞o is pleased to present Elope by Mere Thread, an exhibition of new oil paintings by Veronika Pausova. Pausova鈥檚 title Elope by Mere Thread is a combination of seemingly nonsensical words inspired is by Noah Wall鈥檚 series Grotesque Tables II, which is a play on Brian Eno鈥檚 Oblique Strategies. The title exemplifies the artist鈥檚 investigation of words, codes, and images, weaving together a highly imaginative environment.

The exhibition is a series of paintings inspired by recognizable forms such as spiders, feet, fish, or fingers that become dislocated in a abstracted, surrealist backdrop. When these figures are attached to various shapes inside of Pausova鈥檚 invented environments, the interaction changes the way the viewer understands the painting鈥檚 idiosyncrasies. Dangling spider earrings, acrobatic dancing spiders, and nibbling fish visiting from underneath an outlined sea, are just a few elements that the viewer will encounter when looking into Pausova鈥檚 dream-like worlds. Additionally, the odd cropping, awkward shifts in perspective, and multiple points of view make us question our notions of reality; it is what we perceive to be tangible or recognizable that becomes disjointed in the abstract- ed environments Pausova creates.
