Ying Li: Weather Report
The Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery and Gross McCleaf Gallery presents Weather Report, a two-part exhibition of new paintings by Ying Li, the Phlyssa Koshland Professor of Fine Arts at Haverford College. Painted en plein air across residencies in Florida, Virginia, and Northern Ireland from 2022 to 2024, Li鈥檚 densely layered atmospheric images draw the viewer in, inspiring us to touch and perhaps even taste the air in the sweeping landscapes she depicts. Pushing her high volume oil paint aesthetic to the place where abstraction beautifully crashes back into representation, Li鈥檚 work forecasts our ever shifting relationships with the landscapes that surround us.
Weather Report is accompanied by a publication featuring Ying Li鈥檚 Intransitive Representations, an incisive new essay on Li鈥檚 work by Barry Schwabsky 鈥79, art critic for The Nation and co-editor of international reviews for Artforum.
