Stedelijk Museum

Amsterdam | Netherlands

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is the Dutch museum for modern art. It holds one of the most important collections of modern art and design in the world, with such celebrated names as Matisse, Mondrian, Picasso, De Kooning, Rietveld and Sottsass. Due to climatic requirements, the permanent collection of the museum cannot be displayed at the temporary location, close to Central Station. There the Stedelijk focusses on international and Dutch contemporary art and design, from 1968 on. December 2009 the museum will return to its building at the Museumplein and will be able to present the collection again. In its new housing, the Stedelijk Museum will be able to be modern-classic museum and a contemporary platform at the same time.

Please Note: The museum will stay in its temporary location until October 2008 - the temporary location will not display the collection. The reopening at the Museumplein will be in December 2009.
