New Book and Works
DENVER.... This month Abend Gallery celebrates the publication of Land & Light Workshop: Capturing the Season in oils, a new, 128-page instructional art book by Tim Deibler. The book includes advice on equipment, choosing the best view and time of day, and painting shadows, among a variety of other helpful tips. In Deibler`s honor the gallery presents a show of his works that appear in the book. The recent paintings are inspired by sketches and notes the artist makes on trips near and far from home, including to Taos, Venice, and Niagara Falls. "Being an artist isn`t just a job, it`s a life-long adventure," Deibler writes in his book. Meet die artist at a reception and book signing from 5 to 9 p.m. on March 4.

Vibrant Visionary
PUEBLO.... Dean Flemming is considered one of Colorado`s most important visionary artists. This month the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center showcases works by the artist-landscapes that capture the wilderness area surrounding his home, an artists` commune in the Wet Mountains located in southern Colorado. Flemming`s large-scale, abstract landscapes feature the artist`s signature long, loose, and vibrantly colored brush strokes.

Contemporary Realists
DENVER.... Collectors of contemporary realism may want to consider a foray to William Havu Gallery this month. New works by Jeff Aeling, Aaron Brown, and Rick Dula are on view. Aeling is known for his abstracted landscapes, which render the colors of the western terrain and capture breathtaking sunsets at Colorado`s Castle Rock and thunderstorms approaching Cerro Pillon, NM. Brown takes viewers on journeys through slice-of-lifc tableaus that portray everything from trailer parks with yard art to mysterious typewriters placed by elevator doors. Billboards and the city streets inspire Dula`s acrylic collage canvases.

Expressing Beauty BASALT.... New paintings by Andy Taylor are on view at Basalt Gallery this month. Taylor has lived and painted in western Colorado for more than 20 years. The landscape artist works from sketches created on location, and his resulting images explore color, form, and rhythm and evoke a sense of place. Taylor`s works often straddle the fence between realism and expressionism, capturing what he sees as well as what he feels. The subject matter for his landscapes often includes the Colorado Plateau. His large-scale canvases depict everything from the quiet magnificence of a pond to the sprawling expanse of mountain ranges. Meet the artist at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 4.
