Contributed by Adam Simon / The five abstract paintings in Medrie MacPhee鈥檚 鈥淭he Repair,鈥� at Tibor de Nagy, have just enough indications of figure/ground and observed reality to evoke landscape, interior space, aerial view, blueprint.

More than 80 artists spanning the gallery鈥檚 history contributed work 鈥斅燼nd some were present for the celebration.

This month, Marian Goodman opened her new space in Tribeca鈥攁 thoughtfully renovated building at 385 Broadway. 

Brooklyn-based conceptual painter Adam Simon is known for his cagey synthesis of the graphic symbols and tropes of commerce and civic life into elegant visual statements about the zeitgeist and, more grandly, the world as a whole.

Adam Simon's work embodies the post-structuralist view that all art is inherently representational and laden with cultural meaning, even when it appears abstract.

Word is we鈥檙e heading into a supercharged hurricane season that could yield six to ten storms driving up the coast, but nothing can stop artists from returning to the city to mount fresh exhibitions.

With exhibitions such as 鈥淎S/AS: Anton Stankowski / Adam Simon鈥� at Osmos Address, where the artists鈥� works are paired, a message is sent that the art is not intended to be merely evaluated on its own terms but is also to serve an instructional purpose.
