Humans have used art as a way to explore the idea of self since the beginning.

From the self-portrait to the selfie, we are inherently driven by the need or desire to represent ourselves in images. 

This month, Gallery Jones in Vancouver, BC welcomes Toronto based painter Jenn Mann for her solo exhibition Metonymy.

Jen Mann’s stirring oil portraits blend realism and abstraction, isolating aspects of the face for photo-negative representations and graphic notes.

"The show is titled Notes on Love and consists of obsessions and abstractions of my partner, as I navigate my identity through him, our identity together, and what he represents to me."
