Richly varied in its patterns, the lid and sides of this fine box are formed of panels of chatoyant malachite from the Democratic Republic of Congo and are beautifully book-matched. The hinged lid opens to reveal a wood lined interior. This particular type of malachite is rarely seen utilized in the Lapidary Arts.
