Kudditji Kngwarreye was born in around 1938 in the remote Norther Territory community, Utopia (350km north east of Alice Springs). Utopia has a thriving artist community and is the birthplace of many celebrated artists, including Kudditji's sister, the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Kudditji had a traditional bush upbringing and later worked as a stockman and mine worker for many years. He is also a traditional custodian of many important Dreamings and secret ceremonial sites reserved for "men's business". Kudditji's distinct modern abstract style of "My Country" has seen his work become highly sought after around the world. Kudditji Kngwarreye is represented in major national and international collections and has gained worldwide recognition for his powerful interpretations of his ancestral Dreamings.
