After Hopper: A Plein-Air Preview

Aug 29, 2015 - Nov 15, 2015

Cape Cod Museum of Art and artists from across the country are joining the Addison Art Gallery to celebrate work by contemporary artists inspired by Edward Hopper and Cape Cod. Artists are painting from Provincetown through Orleans all this year, offering their interpretations of scenes that compelled this great American painter.

According to Edith A. Tonelli, Ph.D., Director, Cape Cod Museum of Art, 鈥淚t is exciting for us to partner with Helen Addison and the Addison Art Gallery in supporting and encouraging the historic tradition of plein air painting on Cape Cod. This project, which involves asking artists from all over the country to create new works of art inspired by Edward Hopper and the places he painted, is exactly in line with our mission to inspire artists and exhibit art that is connected to our region. These exhibitions and events are also intended to spark a dialogue about contemporary painting and its ties to historic and global artistic traditions.鈥

Cape Cod Museum of Art Curator, Michael A. Giaquinto stated, 鈥淓dward Hopper has influenced many painters with his direct attention to everyday details of our lives. He takes us to areas that would not normally deserve our attention; he makes us feel we are part of his everyday experiences. Now we get to see how artists from all over the United States interpret his works and the locations he painted.鈥
