Aron Demetz: Nur Die Winter Z盲hlend Contando Gli Inverni

Jul 06, 2024 - Sep 07, 2024

Following his previous gallery exhibition, "Intermezzo," Aron Demetz (1972, Vipiteno) presents a collection of recent works that emphasize the significance of materials, guiding his exploration of their unique characteristics and unforeseen implications. Utilizing the inherent properties of sequoia wood, the artist pushes its limits to uncover singular narratives and details. In his latest pieces, Demetz reexamines the power of subtraction after years of additions, unveiling the metaphor of "winters."

These phases, noted for their resilience compared to summer months, chronicle the growth years of the trees. The artworks depict the life of these natural giants with all their intricacies, highlighting how even the smallest details contribute to the formation of sequoias salvaged from a late 19th-century plantation in Alto Adige. The sculptures illustrate how these majestic entities are composed of delicate moments, celebrating the hidden beauty within their structures.

The slender lamellae supporting towering natural constructions, symbols of delicate balance, evoke resilience veiled within vulnerability. These structures, capable of withstanding heights up to fifty meters, reflect the tension between permanence and transience. Delicate yet sturdy lines serve as metaphors for the inherent strength found in fragility, a central theme in Demetz's work.
