Feb 26, 2019 - Jul 14, 2020

Coming Home is a major new project that sees the National Portrait Gallery sending portraits of iconic individuals to places they are closely associated with. Fifty portraits from the national collection will travel to townss and cities across the UK.

This self-portrait by David Hockney, who was born in Bradford, is one of a series of large-scale single and double figure paintings made in his Hollywood Hills studio in the spring of 2005. The artist worked entirely from life and directly onto the canvas in oils, without photographic reference or preparatory drawings.
