As the title indicates, the group show 禄Everything but Canvas芦 is devoted to artworks not produced on canvas or that extend over and beyond the classic format of the panel picture. The show鈥檚 focus is placed on the examinations of contemporary artistic means carried out in the fields of abstract and concrete painting. Thanks to the extraordinary material diversity that artists associate with the theme of painting, the exhibition provides insights into the realms of possibility offered in the broadest sense by contemporary painting and drawing. In addition, the show addresses the reciprocal tension-filled relationship between flatness and three-dimensionality, between painting and sculpture. You can look forward to minimalist painting objects made of aluminum by the British artist Eric Butcher, 鈥減ainted鈥� acrylic glass reliefs by the Swedish artist Mikael Fagerlund, the most recent geometrically reduced drawings by our gallery artist Julia Mangold as well as three-dimensional drawings in space with light by our guest artist Susanne Rottenbacher from Berlin.
