Filip Zorzor: Transfer International

Mar 25, 2011 - May 14, 2011
Transfer International deals with Turkish places. On his trip to eastern Anatolia in 2010 Zorzor was overwhelmed by the coming together of nature and man-made buildings and Architecture. As the painter himself puts it, "the contrast is much more visible for a stranger than for one in their home environment. These are the images which dominate my memory and that I will not forget. After hearing the call to prayer five times a day, I now notice the church bells in Berlin." These impressions accumulate in his paintings. In general Zorzor's work is referencing places, but not only their physical qualities but also other aspects such as food, sounds, literarture or childhood memories. His paintings have extraordinary ability to trigger moments of time in these places.

In summary, Filip Zorzor's images of memories from inspiring locations are a reminder that every single individual processes environments in a completely unique way. Whether it be through sight, smell or taste, we each encounter the world differently. Or, to use Aeschylus, the Oresteia - The Eumenides describes it even better:

"The smell of the blood of man does not vanish of my sight."
