Fran莽ois Bucher: Contacto: Explorador de ruido c贸smico de fondo

Oct 17, 2019 - Nov 29, 2019

For the first time in Chile, the Colombian artist Fran莽ois Bucher and the Chilean curator Carolina Castro Jorquera bring to the Gallery the exhibition 鈥淐ontacto: Explorador de ruido c贸smico de fondo鈥, to its Graphic room. Inspired by the movie 鈥淐ontact鈥, which in turn is based on the book by Carl Sagan with the same name, the exhibition reflects on the ever-present origin. In the words of the artist 鈥渢his project is read as a science fiction novel that, like all, is based on an other that already exists, in the future or in the past. In a plausible future that touches the strings of the present; or in an invented past, as every past always is, threaded in the words we repeat without knowledge of cause, in the language that is always speaking to us鈥. Like the subtle energy that underlies materiality, the artist takes us on a journey where science merges with perception, building a work of art where image, sound and word embody the 鈥渦niversal other鈥, the original and the concrete.

Bucher鈥檚 practice seeks to deconstruct the hierarchy of knowledge established by contemporary scientific materialism. It does this through continuous changes and translations of different materials, forms and scales. The central artwork is a maloca 鈥 the ceremonial site of the indigenous people of the Amazon -, which in turn is a holographic figure of the celestial dome. What happens within the boundaries of this reflection of the sky paradoxically circumscribes the eternal, goes back in time behind time, and dialogues with the origin of everything. The fractal dome of the sky 鈥 like an inverted radio astronomy antenna -, plays with the concept of emulating the ritual space, a space in which architecture is not only expressed as a 鈥渂uilding that encloses a space鈥, but as an abstract structure that opens a suggestion: that of an absolute that fits in its part.
