Greg Johns: 50 YEAR SURVEY: Against the grain 鈥 with the flow
Half a century ago I began my career as a sculptor. My intention, from very early on, was to make a sculpture which was timeless; both conceptually and form wise. I have not deviated from that intention. Well over one hundred large scale sculptures have now been completed and installed, in Australia and internationally, the majority in public sites.
In the early nineties my work largely, not entirely, moved from being international in style, to engaging a sensibility which came out of the timelessness of the Australian landscape. The same universal themes were engaged, but local forces now became the predominate shaping tools.
