Isabelle du Toit: M茅li- M茅lo
鈥淢y practice centers around my love of animals and my belief that they make us better human beings, offering kindness, patience, and a sense of wonder. 鈥淢茅li- M茅lo鈥 is a French turn of phrase meaning 鈥渢his and that鈥 and the exhibition features a combination of new paintings that are continuations of previously existing series: Refuge, Diversity, & Truce. In a world often in disarray, I hope my paintings serve as a gentle reminder of peace, connection, and empathy.
Refuge speaks to migration and the challenges of belonging鈥攕omething deeply personal to me as an immigrant. Diversity reflects a vision of acceptance and curiosity, encouraging us to approach one another with openness. Truce becomes a way to seek common ground in times of division, creating moments of harmony amid chaos.
Ultimately, my paintings act as quiet prompts鈥攖o be a better person, to listen more, and to appreciate the beauty in differences. Animals fill the world with awe, teaching me every day to embrace all aspects of life. Through my work, I hope to share a piece of that wonder with others.鈥 鈥 Isabelle du Toit
