Kate Ruby Hutchinson: Silhouettes
This is an experimental series of jewellery exploring themes of colour and form through the use of silhouettes and graphic ornamentation.
As a jeweller and object maker I am captivated by colour and its ability to change the appearance and value of a metallic object. I am fascinated by the effect colour has on the human condition, in particular the emotional quality colour holds. I use processes such as anodising and sublimation to disguise and give new meaning to material, as I strive to manipulate and unravel the different ways this can be explored through jewellery and the wearable.
My practice has been based in both Sydney and on the South Coast of New South Wales since graduating from the jewellery studio at Sydney College of the Arts in 2012. I am currently a tenant at SquarePeg Studios in Marrickville, where I do most of my making. My jewellery consists of both small scale production and one off exhibition pieces.
Featuring Artist: Kate Ruby Hutchinson.
