Lewis Baltz: Landscape as Real Estate

This spring the Henry presents a selection of photographs by Lewis Baltz drawn from the permanent collection. Best known for his work associated with the 1975 exhibition New Topographics, Baltz photographs the built environment and its seemingly banal details with an objective (if not dispassionate) eye. The exhibition includes Baltz鈥檚 early black and white photographs of sprawling U.S. suburban developments, as well as his more recent investigations in color photography of European urban and industrial landscapes. 鈥淟andscape as Real Estate鈥� builds upon the Henry鈥檚 long history with conceptually complex photographic work, including the museum鈥檚 reconsideration of New Topographics in a 1998 exhibition subtitled Photographs of a Man-Altered Landscape, while continuing the dialogue set forth in a preceding exhibition from the Monsen collection, Joe Deal and Views of the Altered Landscape.
